49. . Safety. Alabama. Deionte Thompson. 10. player

The Green Bay Packers organization is in shambles right now, as they fired head coach Mike McCarthy after the team’s loss at home to the Arizona Cardinals. With the firing, McCarthy became the second head coach in NFL history to win a Super Bowl with a team, and not be given the opportunity to finish a season.

As the attention turns to who will be the next head coach in Green Bay, the Packers have to figure out a way to get this team moving in the right direction. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers is still the best in the game at what he does, and despite the losing record, has thrown for 21 touchdowns against only one interception this season.

Over the last couple of drafts, the Packers have done a nice job bringing in talent in their secondary, especially at the cornerback spot. However, they traded away safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix to the Washington Redskins during the trade deadline, and should add a player at that position group with their first of two first round picks next April.

That player has to be Deionte Thompson, who is by far the best safety in this draft class. During his time at Alabama, Thompson has proven to not only be great in coverage, but also a punishing defender, and on the Packers, he would instantly make the safety position a strength moving forward.
