2. Hasenhuttl gets first win, away at Cardiff

Mark Hughes was the second manger to be sacked in the Premier League this season and it was only a matter of time. The Saints have been underperforming this season considering the squad they have and it seemed that only fresh blood could correct this situation.

That’s not to say Southampton have a fantastic squad but they certainly have a more established side than other teams that are in and around the relegation zone. Former RB Leipzig manager, Ralph Hassenhuttl, is the new man for the job and he’ll be expecting an upturn in form from the Southampton players.

Every time a new manager comes in players normally perk up as they’re all working from a clean slate and they have a new man to impress. Players who weren’t part of Mark Hughes’ plans will now have an opportunity to get back into the first team while first team regulars will have to up their game in order to stay in the starting XI.

Fortunately for Hasenhuttl, the Saints don’t have the most difficult match this weekend as they travel to Cardiff. This game will by no means be easy but they could have been facing a lot worse. Cardiff have won three of their last five at home and Neil Warnock knows that the only way he’ll keep this side up is with a solid home record.

If Hughes didn’t really have the backing of his squad, Neil Warnock definitely does at Cardiff. The Bluebirds are punching above their weight in this league, especially considering the fact they barely spent any money in the summer transfer window, their biggest signing being Bristol City’s Bobby Reid.

The likes of Reid, Junior Hoilett, Callum Paterson and Josh Murphy have all been great going forward for the Welsh side and they possess a genuine attacking threat for a side that struggled to score goals at the start of the season.

Southampton and Cardiff both struggle at the back and that will show in this match with both sides finding the net. However, Hasenhuttl’s side will just edge out their opponents on Saturday as they win 2-1.
