3. Yankees finally add Bumgarner

Plenty of Yankees fans are sick and tired of reading rumors connecting New York with a trade for Madison Bumgarner. That’s an understandable sentiment. However, the talented southpaw’s impending free agency might be enough to push the Giants to the negotiating table this week.

If Bumgarner does actually hit the trade market, the Yankees will definitely make a competitive offer. Cashman hasn’t hid his desire to upgrade his team’s starting rotation this offseason. Trading for James Paxton was a great first step, but adding Bumgarner to the mix would complete the puzzle.

Predictably, the Yankees would need to pay a steep price to acquire a pitcher with Bumgarner’s track record. They’d likely get their choice of Andujar and Florial, but they won’t get both in the deal. In this iteration, they also get Albert Abreu as a nice high-end arm to add to their farm system.

That return might not be quite enough to get the Giants to move on from their popular star, but it would make Farhan Zaidi and his staff really think about it. This is just the sort of trade that could move quickly once GMs all descend on the same place.
