Cardiff face Southampton at Cardiff City Stadium on Saturday, Dec. 8. Here’s all the info you need to watch.
Saturday’s game between Cardiff and Southampton will be both teams third game in a week. Both teams enter the weekend in the middle of a relegation battle. Only two points separate 16th place Cardiff and 18th place Southampton. While Saturday’s game is far from a marquee matchup, it could be a game that determines which club is relegated in May.
Cardiff lost 3-1 to West Ham on Tuesday and have lost four of their last six games. The Bluebirds have struggled to keep the ball out of their own net. Only two teams have allowed more goals than Cardiff, who have conceded 30 goals. Cardiff have to improve their defense and limit their mistakes if they are going to stay up. Neil Warnock’s team will rely on Callum Paterson and Josh Murphy to score goals. The duo has combined for six of the club’s 14 goals.
Southampton lost 3-1 to Tottenham on Wednesday in the lone game under caretaker manager Kelvin Davis. The Saints hired former RB Leipzig manager Ralph Hasenhuttl to take over. Hasenhuttl inherited a team that has not won a game since Sept. 1 and is currently on an 11 game winless streak. Southampton have scored the fourth fewest goals this season have allowed the fourth most. That combination will have to improve if they are going to avoid relegation. Danny Ings and Stuart Armstrong have combined to score seven of the Saints’ 13 goals this season.
