Espanyol vs. Barcelona live stream: Watch La Liga online
By Warren Pegg
Espanyol face Barcelona at the Estadi Cornella-El Prat on Saturday, Dec. 8. Here’s all the info you need to watch.
In recent years, Espanyol haven’t had much joy in the Barcelona derby, or Derbi barceloni as it’s known in Catalonia. Indeed, they haven’t beaten Barcelona in La Liga since February 2009, and their last home derby victory in the league came even further back in January 2007.
Nonetheless, they’re performing well under new coach Rubi and presently lie seventh, just three points below the Champions League places. Few expected that going into this campaign, given that Espanyol finished some 24 points off the top four last term. It’s worth noting, though, that in this most unpredictable of La Liga seasons, only five points separate Girona in sixth from Leganes down in 16th. Espanyol’s good form has been based primarily on a solid back line and the goals of Borja Iglesias, who was signed from Celta Vigo during the summer.
While Barcelona may sit on top of the league going into this match-day, their performances have tended to be far from dazzling this season. They’ve conceded 12 more goals and earned eight fewer points than at the same juncture last term, and had already lost twice by mid-November after not being defeated until May during the last campaign. The likes of Malcom, Clement Lenglet, Arthur, Arturo Vidal and Carles Alena, the La Masia product who scored his debut Barca goal against Villarreal on Sunday, could all make their first derby appearances here.
