2018 NFL Power Rankings, Week 15: Cowboys hot, Steelers not
Recap: The 49ers had dropped three consecutive games as they hosted the resurgent Denver Broncos on Sunday. And early on, Kyle Shanahan’s squad really put it to a team that had come into the game riding a three-game winning streak. Quarterback Nick Mullens finished the game with 332 yards through the air and two scores (1 interception) despite being sacked three times. And his favorite target continued to be emerging tight end Goerge Kittle, who had quite the first half. He was targeted eight times and hauled in seven passes for an astonishing 210 yards, including an 85-yard score. Ahead 20-0 at intermission, the Niners would hold off a Denver rally.
Next Week: For the second time in a three weeks, the Niners will square off against the Seattle Seahawks. In the teams’ first meeting of the season, Shanahan’s club was routed, 43-16. Including a 2013 postseason clash, it was the 10th consecutive loss by the 49ers in this NFC West series – with four of those taking place at San Francisco.
Draft Talk: Give credit to Shanahan and company for putting a dent in the postseason plans of the Broncos. But the reality is that the Niners won’t be going to the playoffs for the fifth consecutive year. As opposed to other years, injuries played a big role in this season’s struggles. But this team could use some more help on defense.
