29. Holiday Bowl – (22) Utah vs. (17) Northwestern

Although the Holiday Bowl is the only top-25 match-up on New Year’s Day, it would be a surprise if this turns into an exciting game. Utah fields one of the nation’s top-rated defenses, but lost both their starting quarterback and running back to season-ending injuries. The same can said about the Northwestern defense, which has consistently held teams to low totals, but offensively, they are as dull as it gets. So expect a low-scoring, uneventful game if you tune in.

28. Arizona Bowl – Arkansas State vs. Nevada

For the eighth consecutive season, Arkansas State is competing in a bowl game, but that really has nothing to do with this bowls ranking. When the Arizona Bowl kicks off, Arkansas State will be a 1-point favorite. Each school is led by a senior quarterback, who will help their team light up the scoreboard. This looks to be a tight, high-scoring game, with big-play potential for each side.

27. Birmingham Bowl – Memphis vs. Wake Forest

The Birmingham Bowl is expected to produce a lot of points, so if you’re into that kind of game, it’s not one you will want to miss. Both teams enter the game averaging over 30 points per game, but neither team has shown any ability to slow down an opposing offense. Both Memphis and Wake Forest have allowed opponents to average over 30 points per game and five yards per play. No one is expecting this to change, which is why I believe this will be the highest scoring bowl game this year.

26. Sun Bowl – Pitt vs. Stanford

Every once in a while, it’s nice to see an old school, smash mouth, college football game, which is exactly what the Sun Bowl will offer. Both teams will look to line up under center and establish their offense by running it down your throat, but don’t think these teams can’t put it in the air. Stanford wide receiver JJ Arcega-Whiteside is one of the most dynamic playmakers in the Pac-12 and quarterback KJ Costello will take advantage of his abilities if you’re keying on the run.

25. Belk Bowl – South Carolina vs. Virginia

Anytime Will Muschamp is on the sideline, it usually amounts to must-watch TV. That alone bumped this game up to the 25th spot. Whether he blows-up on a referee, headbutts a player, or delivers a classic post-game interview, you’ll be glad you tuned in.
