Elijah McGuire, RB, New York Jets

Ever since Bilal Powell’s horrific injury, Elijah McGuire has been on-and-off the waiver wire radar, never quite finding an opportunity to secure the often nebulous responsibilities of “lead back” in the New York Jets offense. The running back he “competes” with for touches, Isaiah Crowell, is one of those volatile players who tends to pop up with a monster game after exiting fantasy relevancy for a good chunk of weeks.

However, McGuire is back on the fantasy radar again after recording a season-high 20 touches in the Jets last-gasp win over the rival Buffalo Bills. McGuire even scored the Jets winning touchdown, punching in a goal-line carrier that has usually eluded him with Crowell on the roster.

McGuire received such an opportunity in Week 14 due to Crowell’s foot injury, which forced him out of the game. Crowell came into Week 14 banged up with a toe issue, but it is unclear if the two injuries are related.

This, of course, means Crowell’s status could be questionable for Week 15 against the Houston Texans. So while McGuire’s 3.8 yards per carry average in the Jets offense is hardly inspiring, his 14 fantasy points in Week 14 and all-purpose ability make him a possible waiver wire pickup this week.
