Damien Williams, RB, Kansas City Chiefs

While Spencer Ware is quite clearly the top dog in the Kansas City Chiefs backfield, there’s a chance Damien Williams could be the lead back when Kansas City takes on the Los Angeles Chargers this week on Thursday Night Football.

See, Ware suffered a possible shoulder injury in Week 14, and while it is reasonable to expect it to be “business as usual” for the former LSU standout next week, it’s also possible Williams could see increased touches against Los Angeles.

Williams was hardly inspiring, carrying the ball eight times for just 14 yards and adding four receptions for a meager 16 yards. That said, the Chiefs did give him 12 touches, and he did net 15 fantasy points, thanks to a rushing and receiving touchdown against a notoriously tough Baltimore Ravens defense, which is among the top three against the run.

The Chargers run defense isn’t bad by any means, but they aren’t on Baltimore’s level. And on a short week, Williams could vulture some touches – and, potentially, more touchdowns – in Week 15 in what should be an exciting game.

Note that because the Chargers vs. Chiefs in primetime could be pass-heavy, that eats into Williams’s potential value, as Ware is the superior pass-catcher (five receptions for 54 yards against the Ravens).
