During their game against the Houston Texans back in Week 11, the Washington Redskins saw their chances of winning the NFC East come to a screeching halt. Quarterback Alex Smith has his leg nearly ripped off by JJ Watt, and the first-place Redskins have not been the same since, falling out of first place in their division.

Smith has a long way to go in terms of his recovery, and some do not believe he is ever going to play football again. In addition, head coach Jay Gruden is firmly on the hot seat as the Redskins continue to lose games, including a drubbing at the hands of an Odell Beckham Jr.-less New York Giants team at home this past weekend.

With Smith’s future in the air, the Redskins may decide to choose a quarterback with their first round pick next April. One player who should go in the first round is Drew Lock, who has been a record-breaking quarterback during his time at Missouri, where he has consistently shredded SEC defenses.

This Redskins team has the talent to win games, and prior to the injury to Smith, they were the class of their division. What happened to Smith is a shame, but with a coach on the hot seat, and a fan base starving for wins, they may roll the dice on a young franchise quarterback next April, and Lock is going to be a good one.
