High Salary PG

Players costing over $6,250

James Harden (at MIA – $11,600): Needs 53.2 fantasy points. There’s no reason to doubt Harden right now. He needs a big game to justify the salary, but he’s delivering big games and making it look easy. The Heat can make things muddy, but there’s really no stopping Harden when he’s rolling. And he’s rolling. Diagnosis: It’s a red hot James Harden.

Chris Paul (at MIA – $8,200): Needs 37.9 fantasy points. Paul had 42.5 fantasy points against the Wizards on Wednesday. With the way the Rockets are playing, you can count on Paul to deliver. And if Harden should struggle for some reason, Paul will pick up the slack. I do worry a bit about the Rockets on the back-to-back and having to travel. Diagnosis: Reliable with a good ceiling.

High Value PG

Players costing $6,250 or under

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (vs DAL – $5,200): Needs 23.8 fantasy points. After being under 20 fantasy points in three straight games, SAG was up to 31 fantasy points against the Blazers on Dec. 17. The minutes continue to be there and he’s a high ceiling guy, but he’s not trustworthy as a rookie. The matchup is good as the Mavericks are a poor road team. Diagnosis: Good ceiling and gets minutes, but a rookie risk.

Patrick Beverley (vs DAL – $4,300): Needs 19.7 fantasy points. Beverley was up to 36 fantasy points against the Blazers on Dec. 17. He’s not exactly reliable because he doesn’t do one thing very well, but with Lou Williams out of the lineup he showed off more playmaking against the Blazers. The matchup is a good one and the hope is that he continues to be the primary ball handler in the offense. Diagnosis: Low-cost with a high ceiling.
