High Value PG

Players costing $6,250 or under

Fred VanVleet (vs CLE – $5,500): Needs 25.3 fantasy points. VanVleet had 24.5 fantasy points against the Pacers on Dec. 19. Not great numbers given his role on the team and now his salary has gone up. But the Pacers were a tough matchup. And the Cavaliers are not a tough matchup. As long as VanVleet picks up the start once again, he’ll turn in a better performance. Diagnosis: He’ll be better against this matchup as long as Lowry is still sidelined.

Malcolm Brogdon (at BOS – $5,400): Needs 24.8 fantasy points. Brogdon produced 34.75 fantasy points against the Pelicans on Dec. 19. The matchup was good and while the Celtics are a tough matchup, I’ve loved Brogdon for most of this season and he’s delivered for most of the season. He had 28.5 fantasy points against the Celtics on Nov. 1. He’s at a good salary and is the kind of role player who will step up in this matchup. Diagnosis: Reliable with a solid ceiling.

Marcus Smart (vs MIL – $4,900): Needs 22.5 fantasy points. Smart had 32.5 fantasy points against the Suns on Dec. 19. He’s averaging 26.8 fantasy points as a starter this season. And he’s shooting the three well over the last two games. Maybe his shooting streak ends, but he still chips in with defense and assists. And he can score in other ways. He’ll log big minutes and play a big role in this game. Diagnosis: High ceiling and red hot.
