The Carolina Panthers began the season as one of the better teams in the NFC, getting out to a 6-2 start before the wheels fell off. Heading into the final game of the season, they are once again without Cam Newton, who missed this past week’s loss to the Atlanta Falcons, and have been one of the more disappointing teams in the NFC in 2018.

Newton is being shut down so that he can come back at 100 percent next season, which should help improve the offense. Running back Christian McCaffery has been an absolute beast in year two as the feature back in Carolina, and the offense has a bunch of young pieces that should only improve in the coming seasons.

On the defensive side of the ball, Carolina is getting up there in age, especially in the edge rusher department. One player who could fit in nicely on their defense is Rashan Gary from Michigan, who is one of the more versatile defensive linemen this draft class has to offer.

Gary is a guy who can play on the edge, as well as with his hand in the ground, and the Panthers have shown they need more than a couple of new pieces on defense this offseason. They should be back to being a playoff contender in 2019, but they need a healthy Newton, and ramped up defense to do so.
