The San Francisco 49ers lost to the Chicago Bears this past weekend, and are firmly planting themselves inside the top-5 picks in the 2019 NFL Draft. This is not how this season was supposed to go for San Francisco, as they figured with Jimmy Garoppolo under center, they would be a team to fear in the NFC West.

Well, Jimmy G tore up his knee, and it has been all downhill since, as the 49ers will now look to bring in some talent early in round one next April. Nick Bosa is without a doubt a top prospect — of not the top prospect — in the draft and landing him in the Bay Area would be a steal for the 49ers.

Right now, it looks like that’s exactly the situation the team has lucked into.

General Manager John Lynch cut his teeth in the NFL as a standout defensive player, so it would make sense that he would spend an early pick on that side of the ball. In Bosa, you are getting an incredibly athletic, strong, and nimble big man, who can clog up the middle of the line of scrimmage at the NFL level. We’ve seen what his brother Joey has done with the Chargers and Nick seems capable of even more.

San Francisco has a ton of talent on their roster, and they could certainly be in the mix to win the NFC West as soon as next season. Garoppolo is going to come back healthy, and if they can add the right pieces this offseason, there is no reason why head coach Kyle Shanahan can’t get this train moving back in the right direction.
