High Salary SG

Players costing over $6,667

Jimmy Butler (at UTA – $8,000): Needs 33.9 fantasy points. Butler had 41 fantasy points on Christmas. There’s weird energy around the Sixers due to the comments of Embiid, but you typically know what you’re getting from Butler. He raises his level of play in these tough games. And this is definitely a tough game given the Utah defense. Butler will get his points in this one while contributing enough in other categories to make him a solid play. Diagnosis: Reliable with a good ceiling.

Donovan Mitchell (vs PHI – $7,400): Needs 31.3 fantasy points. Scoring has been a struggle for Mitchell and he’s not always doing enough in other categories to boost his value. The matchup is tough, but the opportunities continue to be there for him. I have to trust that the shots will start falling in a big way soon. And it’s not like the Sixers overall defense is great. Diagnosis: High ceiling. Inconsistent right now, but it feels like the lid is going to come off in a big way in this game.

Buddy Hield (vs LAL – $7,200): Needs 30.5 fantasy points. Hield was down to 19.7 fantasy points against the Clippers on Wednesday. It’s a bit concerning, but he’s been strong throughout this season and I’m willing to chalk up Wednesday to just an off shooting night. The bad news is that his salary has gone up so he needs to bounce back in a big way. Middleton might be involved in a blowout and Klay Thompson has been struggling all season. So I’ll still rock with Hield despite his off night on Wednesday. Diagnosis: Good ceiling and matchup. I worry about the Lakers with all their injuries and coming off a big win against the Warriors.
