2019 NFL mock draft: Giants take Dwayne Haskins
By Brad Weiss
The Detroit Lions hired Matt Patricia prior to the 2018 NFL season, and the hope was that he could bring some of that New England magic over with him to the Motor City. Instead, the Lions were a worse team then they were the year before, and will be spending another Winter on the outside looking in at the playoffs.
Detroit gave a ton of money to Matthew Stafford a couple of years back, and he was supposed to bring this team to the top of the NFC North. However, the rest of the division has passed the Lions, and in 2018, they finished at the bottom, and will now head into the offseason looking for answers.
Stafford is a guy who can put up a lot of yardage, as well as touchdowns, but he has never proven he can win a big game at the NFL level. They have a lot of money invested in him, and will have to make due until his contract comes off the books, so they better improve on both sides of the ball, and cheaply.
One area where they could stand to improve is in the pass rush, and adding a guy like Rashan Gary from Michigan would help them immensely in that department. Gary played his college ball inside the state of Michigan, so he would be an immediate fan favorite, especially if he can bring his dominant brand of defensive football with him to the NFL ranks.
