NBA DFS Sleepers and Standard Deviations – Friday, January 4
By John Fazio
Let’s highlight the best NBA DFS value per dollar players and spotlight those NBA DFS Sleepers you need on this January 4th 10 game slate.
Center stage are 3 NBA DFS shootout games with totals 30 points greater than some others, namely Atlanta/Milwaukee, LA Clippers/Phoenix and OK City/Portland. Milwaukee is a 14 point favorite and has the highest projected team total.
Giannis Antetokounmpo, Milwaukee
Highest priced player on the slate but also the most likely to supersede all others in value. Highest implied team total, highest implied individual player, only played 26 minutes his last start, and Atlanta is near the bottom in defending the SF/PF positions. The definition of a NBA DFS Sleepers and positive standard deviation pick.
Brook Lopez and Khris Middleton, Milwaukee
Playable stacks with and/or pivots from Giannis. Both players average more than 1 DK point per minute (PPM) and now have the most favorable match-up possible. Mix and match or stack them all. Brogdon and Bledsoe are also possibilities but they have produced duds in similar situations. Late injury update: Ersan Ilyasova is now available to play which will cut into Lopezs’ minutes. Conversely Ilyasova is near minimum salary and produces better than 1 DK PPM on average.
Daniel Hamilton, Atlanta
Possible hidden sleeper here pending on the minutes he will be given. At near minimum salary, he’s been elevated into a starters’ role with injuries to Bazemore and Prince. He averages 1 DK PPM when given at least 15 minutes to play.
John Collins, Atlanta
Biggest beneficiary of the current depleted Atlanta line-up. With a projected ceiling of nearly 1.5 DK PPM, he’s the Hawks offensive leader and could exceed his previous high of 50 DK points.
Danilo Gallinari, LA Clippers
Best Clipper starter to take advantage of this projected shootout style game. Consistently produces well over 1 DK PPM and is in a great spot here.
Montrezl Harrell, LA Clippers
Another superb PPM producer occasionally exceeding 2 DK PPM.
Lou Williams, LA Clippers
Along with Harrell, they run the 2nd squad and light up the PPM. They see extended court time because of their effectiveness and are great tournament plays. In games they are shooting well, they see nearly 30 minutes of court time each as bench players.
DeAndre Ayton, Phoenix
In an excellent spot, as the Clippers are 27th in defending centers this season. Ayton averages over 1 DK PPM with the potential here to post a huge number.
Paul George, OK City
High-tier price but simply too good not to mention. He scored 84 DK points at Utah a few games back and faces a team he can handle in what should be an over game with the total currently at 223. A stack with Russell Westbrook would be great if salary considerations permit.
Jusuf Nurkic, Portland
This guy is bizarre. A must roster in some tournament line-ups as he can post as high as 83 DK points. Far from a lock as he can also dud at 20 points, but if he is on he will out produce almost everyone.
Nikola Vucevic, Orlando
He will be well under owned because of his price and his teams low implied total. Roster him anyway. He consistently turns in solid performances with some whopping games as well.
Closer to game time injury reports open spots for cheaper players to start and provide value, making salary room for players listed above.
