5 Offseason moves the Baltimore Ravens have to make
By Tyler Brooke
1. Trade away Joe Flacco
Lamar Jackson did not have his best game against the Chargers, but it’s still clear that the rookie QB is the future for the Ravens at the position. Even if he’s still an extremely raw passer, the fact of the matter is that Jackson is set to make more than $60 million less than this veteran counterpart, Joe Flacco, over the next three years.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapaport reported on Sunday that the Ravens plan on moving on from Flacco after this season, whether that be trading him or releasing him.
It would be an ideal situation if the Ravens are able to find someone to take Flacco off of their hands. The former Super Bowl MVP is going to count for $26.5 million against the cap in 2019, and would cost $16 million in dead cap space to cut him, according to Spotrac.
If the Ravens could find a team like the Jaguars to take Flacco’s salary off of their hands, they could probably get a mid-round draft pick or two and some extra cap space for what could be an active offseason.
