A Star is Born missed the mark at the Golden Globes with one single win. Could this be an omen for how the flick will perform at the Oscars?

Now that the Golden Globes are officially over it’s time to break down exactly what the winners (and losers) mean for the Academy Awards, which take place in late February. For some movies, like A Star is Born, it means a heck of a lot.

The flick, directed by Bradley Cooper and starring Lady Gaga and Cooper, was nominated in five total categories including Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, Best Original Song and the crème de la crème, Best Picture. Lady Gaga and Cooper were nominated for two Globes each: Cooper for Best Actor and Best Director and Lady Gaga for Best Actress and Best Original Song.

The film took home just one of the five awards that it was nominated for.

The lone statue handed down to A Star is Born was for Best Original Song-Motion Picture for the hit song “Shallow.” Lady Gaga accepted the award next to her writing counterparts in a tearful speech where she implied it’s hard to be taken seriously in movies. Perhaps that had some merit considering the four other nominations were all non-music related and they lost them all.

Cooper missed the mark in the Best Director category and Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama category. They also lost out on the Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama category as Lady Gaga failed to take home the statue for her acting chops.

Perhaps the hardest pill to swallow was losing out on the Best Picture award — to another music epic.

This obviously doesn’t bode well for how they may fare in the Oscars talk, especially considering that the voting (for nominations) start bright and early on Monday morning. They aren’t a shoe-in to get nominated, especially after such a poor showing at the Golden Globes, so A Star is Born fans will be crossing their fingers for those Oscar nominations later this month.

And then pray for an upset.

Here are the five categories they were nominated in and the results.
