Does anyone care about TV at the Golden Globes with the Oscars in sight?

The Golden Globes celebrates excellence in both movies and television, but, let’s be real, we only care about the movies.

Sometimes, you have to feel awful for television winners of the Golden Globes, because nobody really cares about them with Oscar coming around the corner.

It sucks that the Golden Globes, which celebrates excellence in both television and movies, is booked so close to the Oscars, which is next month. Why is that? Well, it’s because the Golden Globes is often looked at by critics and movie fanatics as a glimpse into what will happen on Oscar night.

Many of the films that won a Golden Globe on this night will, no doubt, be favorites, or put up a good fight, to take home an Oscar. The Golden Globes is the tea leaves of the Oscars, as we’re all trying to figure out which movies will have grand success on film’s biggest evening.

So the TV categories, while an honor in its own right, is pushed to the back burner.

It sucks to say, but nobody cares about who got Best Supporting Actor in Television on Golden Globes night. Nobody cares about Best Actress in a TV series, either, nor Best TV Comedy and their ilk.

Yes, there will be some press about NBC’s fantastic sitcom The Good Place getting snubbed big time at the Golden Globes. Heck, it lost Best Comedy Series to a little-known Netflix show called The Kominsky Method, which is only eight-episodes old.

A loss like that would leave people steaming.

But only those people who care about television will be steaming, as the rest could have cared less about TV on Golden Globes night. Television’s biggest night doesn’t occur until September, so TV shows getting Golden Globes is like a glorified participation trophy for them.

Everyone knows that the Golden Globes is just the preseason game for the Oscars. The films are Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors, and television is some team from Australia playing them.

Guess who’s always going to win that matchup?
