The Charlotte Hornets are still under .500 and have been leapfrogged by the Heat and Nets in the standings, with only the catastrophic slide of the Detroit Pistons keeping the Hornets in the playoff picture. However, they still have a positive point differential at plus-1.3 points per 100 possessions, about the same as the Rockets, and with a young coach and several young players in the rotation, there’s room for upside.

Malik Monk continues to be one of the biggest question marks, and obvious places where Charlotte could add a lot of value with better play. He’s been very solid on catch-and-shoot 3-point attempts, 38.0 percent, and it’s his pull-up shooting that is dragging down his overall percentage. He has demonstrated the potential to be a scheme-changing shooter off the dribble and hopefully, that potential is finally realized.
