2019 NFL mock draft: Josh Allen heads to the 49ers
By Brad Weiss
The New England Patriots did not play the kind of brand we have expected from them over the past two decades this season, but they were still nearly better than every other team in the AFC. Led once again by ageless Tom Brady, the Patriots ended the regular season with the No. 2 overall seed in the conference, and will get to host at least one playoff game in 2019.
That game will come about this Sunday, as they take on the Los Angeles Chargers inside Foxboro in the Divisional Round. Brady and company have a long history taking on Philip Rivers and the Chargers, who are fresh off eliminating Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens in the Wild Card Round.
As it stands, the Patriots would be picking at the bottom of the first round if the season ended today, and they would stand to improve by bringing in a new edge rusher. During his time at Boston College, Zach Allen established himself as one of the best in college football at getting after the quarterback, which is an area this current Pats defense needs help in.
Head coach Bill Belichick is a defensive genius, and you have to think he could do wonders with a player who possesses the kinds of skills Allen does. The Patriots could end up in another Super Bowl this season, as the AFC is wide open, but they need help on the defensive side of the ball moving forward.
