The new year finally brings back new episodes of Grey’s Anatomy season 15, so here’s when you can tune into the mid-season premiere, “Shelter from the Storm.”

Grey’s Anatomy continues to show a tremendous amount of fortitude, even as it crawls through season 15 and nearly eclipses ER as TV’s longest-running medical drama.

Of course, that’s not to say that this season is bad. But it’s not all that different from season 14 as it continues to hit the same emotional and comedic beats. And while many fans probably won’t be over the absence of fan-favorites Arizona Robbins and April Kepner for quite some time still, Meredith’s love life is a welcome distraction.

At this point, DeLuca is a clear front-runner for Meredith’s affection, based on Grey’s Anatomy clear parallels between his attempts to romance Meredith, and Derek’s — the teacher/student aspect, the elevator, etc.

More importantly, this season began with the Teddy/Owen/Amelia love triangle promising to take us on a satisfying and interesting journey. Unfortunately, so far, it’s only been a rehash of Amelia and Owen’s will-they-or-won’t-they drama from seasons past (basically, all of Owen’s romances), with the addition of Teddy’s own self-doubt. Teddy, who was previously one of the better and more confident doctors at the hospital, has just become another setpiece with her only highlight of the season so far being relegated to helping Meredith prepare for a bake sale.

So, when does Grey’s Anatomy return with new episodes that will show how everyone plans to pick up the pieces in the wake of this startling revelation?

The midseason premiere will air on Jan. 17 at 8 p.m. ET.

Once we return, we’ll see the repercussions of Teddy’s news as a terrible storm continues to rip through Seattle. Since this is ABC and we know how good they are dragging some drama out, it seems only right that they extend the number of episodes for this season, too.
