High Value C

Players costing $6,250 or under

Tristan Thompson (at LAL – $6,100): Needs 29.1 fantasy points. Thompson was down to 18.75 fantasy points against the Rockets on Jan. 11. It’s worrying that his numbers have been down despite his role on the team. But I’m willing to give him this matchup because the Lakers have not done well against opposing frontcourt players. Diagnosis: Inconsistent, but a good matchup and ceiling.

JaVale McGee (vs CLE – $5,000): Needs 23.8 fantasy points. McGee hasn’t played great with LeBron out of the lineup, which isn’t too surprising. No one gets the most out of athletic centers who aren’t actually all that good quite like LeBron. The matchup is a good one for McGee and he’s shown a high ceiling this season. Diagnosis: Same as Thompson, just much cheaper.

Kevon Looney (at DAL – $4,400): Needs 20.7 fantasy points. And if you want someone more reliable that McGee or Thompson, Looney is your best bet. He’s rarely going to hurt you because of the team he’s on and he’s flashed a good ceiling. He had 20.75 fantasy points against the Mavericks on Dec. 22. Diagnosis: Reliable with a decent ceiling.
