4. Find a Workhorse Running Back

The Eagles backfield situation looked great heading into 2018. Unfortunately, Jay Ajayi went down with a torn ACL in October, and the Eagles backfield committee has been pretty underwhelming this season.

To make matters worse, Ajayi is an unrestricted free agent this offseason. The Eagles may be able to bring him back on a cap-friendly deal given the injury, but if not, they’ll need to find someone who can be a workhorse for the offense.

Wendell Smallwood, Corey Clement and Josh Adams can all contribute from time to time, but none of them have looked like they can take on a full-time workload. Darren Sproles is an obvious playmaker, but not a workhorse, and he could retire after this season.

Instead, the Eagles should consider using a mid-round pick on a running back that catches their eye. Teams consistently find productive running backs in the middle rounds, so it’s definitely worth taking a chance on.
