High Value C

Players costing $6,667 or under

Tristan Thompson (at LAL – $6,100): Needs 27.2 fantasy points. Thompson was down to 20 fantasy points against the Rockets on Jan. 11. It’s concerning that his scoring and rebounding numbers have fallen off despite being the only reliable frontcourt option on the Cavaliers. I’m going to give him this matchup because it is such a good matchup. Diagnosis: Inconsistent, but a high ceiling and good matchup.

JaVale McGee (vs CLE – $5,900): Needs 26.4 fantasy points. McGee simply isn’t the same player without LeBron. Much of that is just due to LeBron’s gravity, which frees McGee for easy points. The minutes and opportunities are still there for him and the matchup is a good one, but much like Thompson, he’s inconsistent and this salary is too high given his current production. Diagnosis: Everything said about Thompson applies for McGee, just at $200 less.

Kevon Looney (at DAL – $4,800): Needs 21.4 fantasy points. Looney has been over 23 fantasy points in his last four games and had 32.9 fantasy points against the Bulls on Jan. 11. He’s more reliable than McGee and Thompson due to the team he’s on. And his salary won’t hurt you as much. Diagnosis: Reliable with a decent ceiling.
