28. Ryan Fitzpatrick

This past season brought the ups (three straight 400-yard games to start the season) and downs (seven interceptions in his last three starts) of Fitzpatrick for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He’ll now be a free agent, perhaps with an opportunity to start somewhere if things fall a certain way in a shallow quarterback market this offseason.

There have no indications otherwise at this point, so we can assume Fitzpatrick wants to keep playing. He’ll definitely find a job somewhere as long as that’s the case, if only as a veteran backup that can provide a sugar-high in abbreviated stints if/when he’s pressed into action.

Fitzpatrick’s place on this list of free agents is cemented by two things–upside and intrigue. The upside is immense (see the start of the  2018 season), as he brings a no holds-barred approach to quarterbacking with nothing to lose and a certain, however strange, swagger. But with a range of outcomes that includes the extreme other end of the spectrum, Fitzpatrick is interesting in a league that needs more interesting figures who are not otherwise a cause for distractions. Let’s hope for one year of “Fitzmagic”, where he plays a fair amount again.
