4. Trading for Jeremy Lin

Injuries to Rajon Rondo have put the Lakers in a tough spot at point guard for much of the 2018-19 season to this point. What’s more, with the inconsistency of Lonzo Ball in his second year in the league, there’s no question that this team could look for depth and stability at the position moving forward in this campaign. Subsequently, making a call to the Atlanta Hawks about Jeremy Lin would be a wise move for Magic Johnson and Rob Pelinka.

Coming off the bench on a bad/rebuilding/tanking-again Hawks team, Lin has still managed to make his presence known in the Atlanta rotation. The 30-year old guard has averaged 10.8 points, 3.6 assists and 0.8 steals per game on the year while playing a mere 19.5 minutes per contest. Even better, Lin has been shooting 47.8 percent from the field and a respectable 34.7 percent on his 3-point attempts this season.

Bringing Lin to Los Angeles would actually make a ton of sense for them. Not only would it ease Luke Walton’s job in regards to him searching for someone (anyone) to play relief duties at point guard, but it would diversify the skill sets at the position, giving the Lakers a better shooter at the position and someone who can also play well off the ball if James takes over.

With the Hawks building with young pieces, they could be interested in 25-year old Kentavious Caldwell-Pope in a deal as he’s a player that, at the very least, could show some things as a wing on a bad team, even if he’d have to fight for minutes. Either way, it’s a deal that would make sense for all parties involved given their current plights.
