2019 NFL mock draft: Kyler Murray lands with Redskins
By Brad Weiss
When it comes to the Detroit Lions, you have to think that this is a team that really underachieved this season. Detroit came into the season looking like a contender in the NFC North, as they had a legitimate starting quarterback in Matthew Stafford, and had the players on both sides of the ball to at least challenge for a Wild Card.
Well, the Lions ended up on the outside looking in at the playoffs, and now will have an offseason of more questions than answers. Head coach Matt Patricia was underwhelming in his first season at the helm, and will be looking to improve on both sides of the ball, but must address the biggest elephant in the room with their top-10 pick in 2019.
That elephant is the fact that the team got absolutely no pass rush in 2018, and had the Oakland Raiders not been historically bad, they would have finished last. There is some elite talent at the edge rusher position in this draft class, including Clelin Ferrell, who should hear his name called pretty early next April.
During his time at Clemson, Ferrell helped lead a defensive line that brought home two national titles, and he absolutely dominated the best offensive tackle in the country in Jonah Williams during the championship game. He has that rare blend of strength and speed, and is going to be a double-digit sack guy at the next level.
