2. Cardiff get win in relegation battle with Newcastle

There’s a huge game at the bottom of the table this weekend as two struggling sides face off against each other when Newcastle host Cardiff. These teams desperately need points if they want to remain in the Premier League this season and they’ll both fancy their chances of getting three here.

Newcastle have 18 points so far and sit one point and one place behind Cardiff in 18th place. A win here would see them leapfrog their opponents and temporarily remove them from the relegation zone. However, it could be tough for the Magpies after their midweek FA Cup match.

Not only was this an extra match for Newcastle to play but Rafa Benitez’s side also lost some key players to injury in the extra-time win over Blackburn. Defenders Ciaran Clark and Jamaal Lascelles both suffered injuries and are very unlikely to feature on Saturday.

That could mean a makeshift back four or five for Newcastle as Benitez has limited options. The good news for Newcastle fans is that Cardiff have only managed to win once on the road this season — a 1-0 victory away to Leicester.

By all means that was a fantastic result for them but it came from a Victor Camarasa wonder goal and the Bluebirds will need to show more going forward if they want to take three points this weekend.

When the two sides met earlier on in the season it finished 0-0 even though Newcastle had a man sent off with just under 30 minutes remaining. It’s hard to see this one being a goalfest either and one goal might just settle it.

Nobody expects Cardiff to stay up but Neil Warnock is doing well to keep his side competitive when taking into consideration the likes of Fulham who’ve really struggled despite big summer signings.

Warnock will know that his side have a great chance at their second away win of the season on Saturday and this weekend they’ll get it with a 1-0 victory over a depleted Newcastle.
