1. Southampton move away from drop zone with win over Everton

Southampton are another relegation-threatened side who desperately need to put points on the board. The Saints have looked better since Ralph Hasenhuttl took over from Mark Hughes and this weekend they welcome Everton to St. Mary’s.

Everton started the season off playing nice attacking soccer but of late they’ve looked sluggish and a little clueless going forward. Last weekend they got a great win over Bournemouth but they didn’t deserve much from that match.

They struggled to create a potent attacking threat and it was more a lapse in concentration from Bournemouth than good play from the Toffees that got them a goal. However, that’s not to say that Marco Silva’s side can’t play well which makes this game harder to predict.

Southampton have some good players going forward but they themselves have been let down by poor defensive performances. This was demonstrated in midweek when they surrendered a two-goal lead in their FA Cup replay with Derby County. They went on to lose that match on penalties and that extra-time could come back to haunt them on Saturday.

A positive stat for the Saints manager is that Everton only have two away wins to their name this season. Victory could take Southampton further away from the relegation zone and Hasenhuttl will fancy his side’s chances of getting it this weekend.

The teams have met twice already this season, once in the league and once in the Carabao Cup, with both of them winning once. This game certainly means more for Southampton than it does for Everton and that will show on Saturday.

Both teams will score but Southampton will be more clinical going forward and run out 3-1 winners. If results go their way Southampton could be as high as 14th place by the end of the weekend.
