Linebackers are like running backs on defense; if you have a stellar season as an underclassmen, leave and get to the NFL. This class of linebackers has some stellar underclassmen that will outshine this group. That being said, there is going to be talent on display in Alabama.

The position as a whole features players that are likely two-down players at the next level. Notre Dame’s Te’Von Coney highlights that group. Coney is not the exceptional athlete most expect from an every-down linebacker at the next level. However there is a role for a down-hill, smart and instinctive linebacker on every NFL team.

Coney’s teammate Drue Tranquill is in a similar boat but will also have the dreaded medical narrative over his shoulder after two season ending injuries during his Irish career. Germaine Pratt has caught my attention. He’s a solid athlete that did not see the field full-time until the past season. He’s an attacking player with good range, at the least he can make an impact on special teams. Utah’s Chase Hansen has fans among draft twitter as well. Hansen is a former safety that will try to show he still has that level of athleticism when in Mobile.
