This group was going to be split into corners and safeties, but after hearing Jim Nagy on the Locked on NFL Draft podcast, this designation was a better idea. Nagy indicated that there will be few defensive backs pigeon-holed into strictly a safety or corner role. All of these guys will get a chance to showcase skill set in every perceivable coverage.

Obviously given the depth of this list, there is a ton of talent in the group. The top of the bunch heading into Mobile would be  Delaware safety Nasir Adderley. Adderley, despite playing at such a small school is getting round one buzz. He’s a do-it-all safety that dominated competition and should have the athletic testing to match.

Juan Thornhill of Virginia would be the next best of the group. Another safety that showcased a variety of skills, but this time in the ACC. Thornhill may not be an explosive athlete like the underclassmen ahead of him. Instead he offers experience and versatility for any defense. With the modern NFL making more defensive backs be on the field, Thornhill is the type of player that can thrive.

The safety class is the diamond for this group. Most of the top corners for this draft class are under classmen and will not be in Mobile. The best corner in the group goes to Texas’ Kris Boyd. Boyd is a long corner who will need to answer agility questions while in Mobile. With a solid week, he will be a riser given his size and ability to play a variety of coverage.

This entire group will be tasked with slowing down some of the best talent the Senior Bowl has put together at the quarterback position. There will be players who look lost and some that shine. Overall this is the most intriguing position to watch in the one-on-one drills.
