Like running back, tight end seems to be the type of position where if you are eligibile and have a strong tool-set to work with the smart move is to jump to the NFL. The group in Mobile features some solid players but there may not be an NFL-starter level talent in this group.

The best of the bunch is a close race between Notre Dames Mack and Utah State’s Raymond. Both fit the mold of the modern NFL tight end. While they may not be the best blockers they are the type of mismatch players the NFL coaching can work with. Mack lost two seasons while in school but showed flashes his senior year, especially in the red zone. Raymond is a solid athlete but will not wow like some of the NFL’s bests. Where he wins is with his ability to find soft spots in coverage and be as quarterback friendly as any other player in the class.

Overall this group features more blockers than receivers, whichs limits it’s upside entering the NFL draft. There may be a name or two that pops here, especially given some of the offenses these players are coming from. With the names that have declared already, it would not be a surprise to see the first eight to ten tight ends taken in the draft to be underclassmen.
