Grady Jarrett as the number two free agent target for the Jets this offseason may be a surprise. Regardless, he would be a huge plus and could fill an immense hole on the Jets defensive line.

The Jets let Damon Harrison walk in free agency a few years ago in order to pay Muhammad Wilkerson and Sheldon Richardson. Since then, they have never been able to find a true replacement for Harrison and have cut ties with Wilkerson and Richardson.

Therefore, Jarrett should be a one of the first players Mike Maccagnan calls when free agency opens up. Pro Football Focus had him highly rated in 2018, and he is another younger option at age 25.

Yes, as seen with Flowers and Clowney, Jarrett fits that theme of younger, yet dominant available free agents. Age should be prioritized for the Jets because they aren’t necessarily going to win right off the bat.

Jarrett can stop the run and also put pressure on the quarterback from the interior of the defensive line. He went for a career-high in sacks in 2018 with six. Adding to the defense not only gives Gregg Williams pieces to play with, it also takes some pressure of Darnold with a stout defense.
