NBA Trade Deadline 2019: One trade every team should make
By Daniel Lewis
Jordan Bell is on the move again, but this time, he’s headed down south to Texas to join up with Mark Cuban and the Mavericks. Dallas is in a position where they shouldn’t be trading draft assets to add pieces, but if they can move a veteran guard like Harris again, they should explore that. This season isn’t likely going to wind up with the Mavericks making the playoffs, so they should be experimenting to find lineups that will work with Doncic and Dennis Smith Jr. (as long as the latter is in Dallas).
While it may seem cruel to trade Devin Harris two years in a row, and after he signed with them in the offseason after having been sent to Denver, it’s not like he doesn’t know what to pack for two months of basketball. At least this time he’s going to get a chance at a ring with the Warriors.
For Golden State, while they have one of the best players in NBA history at point guard, with capable ballhandlers on the bench in Andre Iguodala and Shaun Livingston, Harris gives them a veteran guard that they can trust in the playoffs to make the right play. He’s a smart player, with a knack for making key plays off the bench. He only needs to be good for 10-15 minutes a night, and the Warriors probably aren’t going to be in many seven-game series.
