The Pelicans don’t want to trade Anthony Davis. The Pelicans don’t want to see Anthony Davis play for any other team than their team. In order to give them the best chance to succeed with him on the roster, they need to find better talent to put around him. That means they need to move their 2019 first round pick and some of the big contracts they have in order to find players that can contribute more to winning basketball games — something they’ve been struggling to do as of late.

Moving Solomon Hill and Wesley Johnson to the Hawks with that first round pick for Kent Bazemore and Taurean Prince gives Davis two of the best wing players he’s been around since he showed up in New Orleans. A swap of two players that aren’t helping for two players that can make a positive difference should dramatically help the Pelicans. With Chris Finch and Alvin Gentry able to engineer excellent offenses, they shouldn’t struggle to incorporate the two wing players from the Hawks.
