NBA Trade Deadline 2019: One trade every team should make
By Daniel Lewis
With Mike Conley Jr. on the trade block, the Suns have to be thrilled at the opportunity to finally find a point guard to run the team. If Devin Booker really wants to form a super team in the desert, adding Conley’s experience, defense, and playmaking would be a great step. It would also help the Suns in their development of players like Deandre Ayton and Mikal Bridges. It makes a huge difference for big men to have a point guard that knows how to get them the ball, where to give them the ball, and can accurately deliver the ball right where they want it. For Bridges, Conley could help the young guard learn the intricacies of perimeter defense, as well as where to position himself on offense to maximize his ability to space the floor.
For the Grizzlies, it’s nice to get a young prospect in Josh Jackson, and the 2019 Round 1 pick could help them land two top 10 picks. They may not ever be able to replicate the grit-n-grind era of basketball that was inspired by Gasol and Conley, but adding Jackson’s potential alongside Jaren Jackson Jr. would be a nice step in that direction. Getting a chance to add players like RJ Barrett and Darius Garland in the draft would be a nice addition to a team that has struggled to add good young players over the last decade.
