SmackDown Tag Team Championship Match

The Miz & Shane McMahon def. Sheamus & Cesaro (c)

I know that creative is trying to get me to care about this partnership with The Miz and Shane McMahon and I applaud the effort. They’re doing the comedy thing on SmackDown Live and I’ve thought for a long time that The Miz is one of the best in the world at what he does but I still just can’t get into this program and that includes this match. But at least Sheamus and Cesaro were trying to get some heat by wearing some Colorado Rockies colors in the home of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

It’s not that this was a bad match by any means but this was a main event on a Tuesday night, not a pay-per-view match. Shane tried to get the crowd amped up early on by going up to the top rope as Miz had Cesaro pinned down on the announce table but Sheamus broke that up. Shane was still able to hit a clothesline from there but baby Vince’s purpose is to usually crash through something to get his pop. He did also attempt to do the coast-to-coast spot but in what was probably the best spot of the match, Cesaro caught him and turned that right into the spin. Fun stuff there.

But then Shane and went surprised not only me but I’m assuming the majority of the WWE Universe by hitting a freaking Shooting Star press to lock down the win to make himself and The Miz new SmackDown Tag Team champs. I certainly can’t hate on that. That’s two title changes on the night.

What’s next: I’m still not overly invested in this whole thing but I do like seeing The Miz with a title and that scene with his dad was nice. The Bar isn’t going to go away and will likely get a rematch at some point but it will be interesting to see how Miz & Mac take on some new challengers before the inevitable breakup that likely leads to a match at WrestleMania 35.
