This year’s Women’s Royal Rumble Match didn’t have the throwbacks that last year’s inaugural edition had, which seemed to upset some people, but it did feature quite a few NXT stars and it gave us a glimpse into the future of the women’s division and it looks very bright. I’ll get to the finish momentarily but here’s a look at a few of the enjoyable moments from the match.

Lacey Evans made her main-roster debut in the No. 1 spot and while she looked a little nervous early on, she fought back strong and got in a few eliminations in a solid outing.

There were plenty of Kofi Kingston-esque spots to avoid elimination, starting with Ember Moon, who was one-upped just a few minutes later by Naomi, who went with walking the barricade before jumping back to the steps. But she was then yanked off of there by Mandy Rose to continue their feud. The best of the night, however, belonged to Kacy Catanzaro, who somehow managed to keep her feet from hitting the floor when initially eliminated, turned that into a handstand and then wrapped her legs around the ringpost and then pulled herself up and back into the action. Fun spots.

You had to love the chop battle between Kairi Sane and Charlotte Flair but then you also had to sit through that weird scene with Maria Kanellis and Alicia Fox. Corey Graves, as he usually is, was brilliant with his commentary there. “Of all the things I’ve seen, this is the most recent.” Superb.

There was Zelina Vega hiding under the ring, which became insanely comical when none other than Hornswoggle poked his face from under there as well, which caused Zelina to run back into the ring to be instantly eliminated. Okay then.

Io Shirai looked great here, as did NXT UK Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley, who is going to be a major force for years to come. But this was all leading into the finish. Lana entered at No. 28 but was too injured to compete, which was made worse following an attack from Nia Jax. After Carmella came in at No. 30, Becky Lynch made her way down the aisle and after pleading to get into the match, she was given the go-ahead by none other than Fit Finlay. Ireland Strong right there.

There could be no other three women to close this match than the three that we were in there as Charlotte Flair, Nia Jax and Becky Lynch have all been a part of how fantastic this division has been over the past six months. Becky was able to finally exact her revenge on Nia for knocking her out just before Survivor Series and there’s never anything wrong with seeing Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair. After Nia injured Becky on her way out, Lynch fought back and was able to eliminate Flair to punch her ticket to WrestleMania. Excellent booking all the way through.

What’s next: There’s still that possibility that we get a Triple Threat but give me Asuka vs. Charlotte Flair for the SmackDown Women’s Championship and Ronda Rousey vs. Becky Lynch in the main event of WrestleMania 35. Book it.
