20. St. Louis Blues

The St Louis Blues are the longest active team without a Stanley Cup win. They’ve been to the Cup final three times, the last time coming in 1970. Those teams, led by the Plager brothers (Barclay, Bill and Bob), were as tough as NHL teams came. Looking through the Blues rosters in the late-80’s, early 90’s, it’s incredible that they don’t have multiple Cup wins.

Brett Hull, Adam Oates, Brendan Shanahan, Al MacInnis and Curtis Joseph. It’s lucky for the rest of the league that they didn’t win multiple Cups. Wayne Gretzky even had a cup of coffee with the franchise but it was too little, too late by the time he got there and the Blues, and Wayne, were slightly over their winning window. This was another team that could just not get it done in the post-season.

The Blues are one of a handful of teams that haven’t messed with their jerseys or logos over the team’s history. The Blues logo and jerseys are as iconic as the blue and yellow that fills them in. For that reason, the luckiest Blues jerseys are also the unluckiest Blues jerseys. But this makes sense, because even in their best seasons, they could not get the job done in the post season.

The Blues are in the midst of a confusing season. They added pieces in the offseason that made this team look great on paper, though they haven’t performed that way at all since the season began. They are flirting with a mini-rebuild, and have said that none of their current players are untouchable.

The Blues are a great, iconic NHL franchise. Hopefully they can win a Stanley Cup in the next decade or so and get the monkey of the franchise’s back once and for all.
