17. 2018-19 Winnipeg Jets

The Winnipeg Jets have a long history with plenty of ups and downs. They’ve had super star players in both the past and present version of the team and they’ve enjoyed some playoff successes, though decades apart.

The unluckiest this city has been was losing it’s NHL hockey team to Phoenix. It was a proverbial kick in the nuts to a blue collar, hockey-loving Canadian city. When the NHL announced that The Atlanta Thrashers would be moving back to Winnipeg, there were parades in the streets with tens of thousand of people. Far more impressive looking than the 250 (actual number) or so who lined up outside the Thrashers facility to protest at the time.

The Winnipeg Jets’ luckiest jersey might be the one they are wearing this season. While the Western Conference provides some really tough competition, the Jets have never been more prepared or more likely to have a crack at the Stanley Cup than they are in this season. The Jets have star power, depth, a great goaltender and a ton of playoff experience. They’ll be going into the playoffs having to beat a heated rival in Nashville and (likely) avenge a playoff loss to Vegas. If they can get through these two (and probably Minnesota again in the first round), they’ll be playing for the Stanley Cup.

Let’s go out on a limb and predict that at some point, for some reason, the Jets will fall in love with their new alternate jerseys. So much so that they’ll end up using them as some form of good luck in the playoffs. The Caribbean blue alternates are actually really nice (despite many not liking them).

We know this team isn’t one to shy away from superstition bringing success. Just look at team sniper Patrik Laine’s beard last season. Despite looking like the remains of a wild animal, he kept that thing going right until the bitter end.

The Winnipeg Jets are a hot pick to win the Stanley Cup this season and with that, a little luck will have to come their way. Maybe, just maybe, that luck will come in the form of these beautiful blue alternates.
