10. Montreal Canadiens

The Montreal Canadiens aren’t actually lucky, just won all their cups when there were no teams around to challenge them. They were a dynasty in a six-team league. Over half of their Cup wins shouldn’t even count. The early NHL was comparable to the AFC East in the NFL – Everyone is terrible so the Patriots only ever play one or two tough games a year. Then they go into the playoffs fresh and win.

The Canadiens players are lucky that they play in Montreal. Hockey players are treated well in most cities but in Montreal, they are Gods. They can go into any restaurant, bar, or depanneur and be treated like royalty. Every single person living there knows who every player is and the city itself offers a variety of very fun places to hang out. It’s probably the funnest city in Canada to party in. When it comes to luck – players that play for the Canadiens win the NHL lottery – when they are winning.

Most of this happens when things are good. When things are bad, the fans will turn on the team at the drop of a hat. They are a rabid, wild people and they really dislike losing hockey games. The city has had enough hockey riots to rank a top five. Think about that for a second. In our lifetime, the fans flipped cop cars and set them on fire after a first round playoff win. In 2008! They beat the Boston Bruins in round one then set their city on fire. It hardly got any coverage. That’s just Montreal.

They never change their jersey. The toilet seat design has been around for a century. It’s the same garbage look this franchise has had since day one. Imagine being the design team behind a jersey today and going with two letters, but together. How incredible. This jersey is still the same because of a long, storied history, but honestly – it’s time for a change.

I still hate them. As should you. None of these jerseys are lucky. The players playing in them are. Unless they lose; then they become the most hated athletes on Earth.
