Luckiest jerseys in the NHL’s long and storied history

29. Arizona Coyotes Kachina Jersey

The luckiest thing about the Arizona Coyotes is that they are located in Arizona. America’s 48th state has a beautiful climate, plenty of cool sights to see, great tourism and some beautiful cities. The draw for players to come to Arizona is simple – It’s gorgeous.

Other than that, the Coyotes haven’t had much luck. The team has consistently underachieved, aside from a couple of good seasons peppered in throughout their short history. The team has been in danger of being moved or sold more than it’s competed for a Stanley Cup.

Despite this, there have been a long list of star players that have played for the Yotes. Recently retired captain Shane Doan, all-star defenseman Kieth Yandle, Kieth Tkachuk, Ed Jovanovski and Jeremy Roenick. Even social media phenom Paul Bissonette played the bulk of his short NHL career with the Coyotes, which was likely a lucky landing spot for him, given how much he played (Just joking, Biz – we love you).

Where the Coyotes did get lucky is in designing one of the greatest hockey jerseys of all time. In their inaugural season, they broke out the (recently-returned) Kachina jersey. The wildly popular Kachina jersey just works. It looks incredible, it has the history, it’s different, but not stupid looking, like many of the newer “try-hard” jerseys being introduced (Not the Jets one, I like the Jets one).

While the Coyotes don’t have much in the luck department, there’s more to come for this team. The league, led by evil demon Gary Bettman, doesn’t like to lose it’s failing teams located in strange demographics. While Arizona started out looking like they were on track for a move, hockey has become far more popular since then. It helps that super stars from Arizona such as Auston Matthews are starting to pop up. Maybe Bettman was right to keep the team there.

The lucky days for this team are still to come. The ‘Yotes have a bright history, they’re just currently on the wrong end of their stacked division.
