2019 NFL mock draft: Quinnen Williams goes No. 1 overall
By Brad Weiss
Surprisingly, the Green Bay Packers were not a very competitive team in 2018, as they struggled to put wins together, and were one of three NFC North teams to miss out on the playoffs. In fact, they fired head coach Mike McCarthy during the season, ending his run with the team that brought the Packers a Super Bowl title.
As they move into the next era of Packers football under first-year head coach Matt LaFleur, the Packers have a lot of work to do on both sides of the ball. Sure, they have a Hall of Fame quarterback in Aaron Rodgers, who should be 100 percent healthy for the start of 2019, and is definitely happy McCarthy is gone.
When it comes to the 2019 NFL Draft, Green Bay will pick twice in the first round, thanks to a trade they made with the New Orleans Saints on draft day in 2018. With their first of two first rounders, they have to get better on the defensive side of the ball, and that includes bolstering the defensive line.
In order to win in the NFC North, you have to be solid against the run, and it would make sense to bring in an elite defensive tackle talent like Ed Oliver at No. 12. Some mock drafts have him going way earlier in the first round, so if he is available at 12, the Packers need to pounce. They have the talent to be a contender in 2019, and this offseason will be so important for them to get back to the top of the landscape in the NFC.
