The Washington Redskins were the kings of the NFC East for most of the first half of the season before an injury to Alex Smith derailed their chances of making it to the playoffs. The injury to Smith was so severe that he will have to sit out the 2019 season as well, which instantly puts the Redskins in the market for a new quarterback in the 2019 NFL Draft.

At the time of his injury, Smith had led the Redskins to first place in the NFC East, and they looked to be a formidable contender on both sides of the ball. While there are a number of different ways they could go with their first round pick in 2019, finding an answer now that Smith is out for next season is priority No. 1.

During the Senior Bowl, Daniel Jones emerged as a legitimate first round quarterback talent, and should hear his name called in the first half of the first round this April. A big-bodied quarterback with an incredibly strong arm, Jones is a guy who could step in as a rookie and start for Washington this upcoming season.

The Redskins showed this past season that they can win football games with Jay Gruden as their head coach, and now it will be up to them to take the next step forward in their development. They saw a lot of nice pieces step up on both sides of the ball in 2018, and the 2019 season should be a close one with in the NFC East, where there has been a different division winner in each of the last three season.
