2019 NFL mock draft: Quinnen Williams goes No. 1 overall
By Brad Weiss
The Detroit Lions are another one of those teams that has a lot of questions heading into next season, as they struggled to play consistent football on both sides of the ball. The organization was not expecting to finish in the cellar of the NFC North, but that is exactly what happened, and now they have to go back to the drawing board when it comes to the roster.
A few years back, the organization spent a ton of money on quarterback Matthew Stafford, who was supposed to bring this team to being a perennial playoff contender. Instead, he has become nothing but a statistics compiler, and has yet to show he can win a big game at the NFL level, despite having incredible talent.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Lions have two big needs heading into 2019, as they must bring in a solid edge rusher, and an elite cornerback. While this draft class is loaded with talent on the edge, the cornerback group has only a handful of first round guys, and Greedy Williams from LSU should be the first one off the board.
During his time at LSU, Williams developed into arguably the best cornerback in the SEC, which just happens to be the best conference in college football. In Detroit, he would give the Lions the shutdown cornerback this defensive backfield is missing, and in a division with guys like Kirk Cousins, Aaron Rodgers, and Mitchell Trubisky, you better be solid against the pass.
