Sometimes, a small-school player comes out of nowhere to surprise followers of the draft and this year that could be none other than Delaware’s Nasir Adderley.

Adderley is one of the draft’s most electric defensive playmakers and has positioned himself well to be the first safety off the board in 2019.

At 5-foot-11, 195 pounds, Adderley excels as a single-high free safety with the necessary range to cover sideline-to-sideline. Opposing offenses shied away from him more in 2018, but he still managed to make play after play for the Blue Hens, including some remarkable interceptions.

Adderley has excellent short-area quickness and some cornerback experience in his past helps with his ability to read the routes of opposing receivers. He’s also an unbelievable special teams player, both as a returner and gunner, whose motor you can’t help but fall in love with.

It’s hard to find a real significant weakness in Adderley’s game, to be perfectly honest. Being a small-school prospect, his testing at the Combine will be a big deal but barring any complete disaster, I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s the first safety off the board.
