NFL Draft 2019: Top 32 prospects – Post-Senior Bowl edition
By Conor Dorney
Some players have the ability to create immediate mismatches when they step on the field and one of those such players for the 2019 draft class is Florida’s Jachai Polite.
While his size may not indicate it (6-foot-2, 242 pounds), Polite is a terror off the edge and has some of the most explosive pass rush ability in the entire class.
Polite is best when putting his hand in the dirt in pass rushing situations and features an explosive get-off that can sometimes get him around an opposing offensive tackle without even being touched. He has remarkable flexibility to bend the edge at the top of his arc and can change directions on a dime, often leaving linemen with no shot at stopping him.
His weight will be the biggest knock on his draft stock and while he is plenty strong, he can at times be swallowed up in the run game when matched up against power.
Expect Polite to perform extraordinarily well at the Combine, particularly in agility drills. If he lands on a team that puts him primarily in situations where he can put his hand in the dirt and fly to the quarterback, he could have a ceiling similar to that of former Seahawks first-rounder Bruce Irvin.
