21. Shaquille O’Neal, LSU Tigers

Shaquille O’Neal is a basketball icon. In his athletic prime, he was tearing down backboards with his tremendous dunks and the raw power and size that he had. He was a dominant force on the hardwood the likes of which we may never see again considering the era and just how freakish of an athlete he was. Before he was doing all that in the NBA, though, he was doing it for the LSU Tigers.

Before he became the man of 1,000 nicknames — nicknames that were, of course, dependent on where he was playing in the NBA — Shaq was a monstrous force for the Tigers basketball team. The big man left such an impression on the LSU athletic program that there is actually a statue of O’Neal outside of their basketball arena.

LSU, however, is better known for their football and Shaq’s ties to the school since his playing days in Baton Rouge have extended to the gridiron. Whenever he’s on the sidelines, you’re not going to be able to miss him. Even among SEC sized football player, the 7-foot-1 and 300-plus-pounder still sticks out as a behemoth among boys. That’s how massive of a man Shaq is.

Despite his commitments to broadcasting now that his playing days are over, you can still catch Shaq at several games per year cheering on the LSU Tigers and donning the famous purple and gold. Without a doubt, O’Neal will be screaming “Geaux Tigers” for as long as he’s able to.
